How much does a state like California make each year from the lottery.?

Question by me: How much does a state like California make each year from the lottery.?
I know that state lotteries are very profitable, but is there any data out there on how much each state makes from them? Also, I have read that poor people spend disproportionately more money on lottery tickets than others–anyone know of any demographic data on ticket purchasers?

Total sales for CA Lottery 2008-2009 Fiscal Year:
$ 2,954,839,094

Total prizes:
$ 1,556,120,634

Administrative expenses:
$ 396,190,567

Revenue to education:
$ 1,048,693,816

You’re not going to see any reliable data regarding demographics. When people buy tickets, they don’t provide any ID or income data. That’s not information that the lottery operators want people to know anyway.
